What is our university like?

Swansea University has two main campuses: Singelton Campus & Bay Campus. This section will give you a flavor of what it is like to study at Swansea University.

Background

On both campuses, there are places to eat/drink a gym and study. There are 24-hour libraries on both campuses with additional study spaces. Both Singelton & Bay are very close to the seafront and town center.  There are a variety of student services (including the ASC service) across both campuses.

Our University has around 25,000 students from a wide variety of different backgrounds and cultures, and we employ approximately 3000 staff. This means that the campus can be very busy at times. It can be useful to know where the quiet places are on campus – here is a link if you would like to know where these are.

The Two Campuses

The two campuses are divided by the Schools,  Colleges & Academic Departments that are based there.

For example, on Bay there is the College of Engineering, the School of Management, Computer Science & Mathematics.

While on Singelton Campus there is the College of Arts and Humanities,  the Hilary Rodham Clinton Law School, the College of Human and Health Sciences, the Swansea University Medical School & the College of Science (excluding Mathematics and Computer Science).

You will only be taught on one campus. Therefore if you enrolled on a History degree (within the College of Arts & Humanities) you would only be taught on Singelton Campus.

How could this affect me?

The campus is bigger than you might be used to at School or College and getting lost is common for new students and when timetables change. Becoming familiar with key buildings and locations may help you to prepare.

You can familiarise yourself with our campuses in a number of ways.

  1. You can attend the ASC team’s Orientation event in August. We hold a two-day Orientation event for new students to help them transition into university life. There is the opportunity of an overnight stay in on-campus student accommodation, tours of campuses, talks about a variety of university topics, and a Eureka style social evening for students. For more information about this event contact wellbeing@swansea.ac.uk or visit our webpage
  2. You can meet with a member of the team before you enroll to discuss your needs and your course. Please see our meeting an autism practitioner webpage
  3. You can attend an open day for your course of study. There are a number of open days for all students to come onto campus. There will be a member of Disability / Wellbeing services at undergraduate open days. Check the main university website to check the next open day.
  4. You can take a virtual tour of our campus(es) in your own time. You can visit your new college, halls of residence, libraries, cafes etc all from the comfort of your own home. Here is a link to the virtual tour of Swansea University.
